A koala has cheated death after it was hit by a car in Victoria's southwest.

After surviving being hit by the vehicle at almost 80km/h outside the town of Portland, the lucky marsupial then endured a 15km ride to the nearest veterinarian hospital wedged in the Falcon's front grill.

"He didnt have any injuries at all — not even a graze," veterinarian Lisia Sturm said.

The animal was freed with bolt cutters and was released back into the wild later that day.
