The Western Australian government has put a halt on all flu shots for young children, after reports of many suffering adverse side effects.

A WA Health spokeswoman told AAP the government had suspended all vaccinations for children under five.

There have been 45 children admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth, suffering high fevers and convulsions after having the flu shot, ABC Online reported on Thursday.

Health Minister Kim Hames said the government would investigate and he urged parents who had their children vaccinated to take precautions.

"If it's longer than 12 hours ago then there is no risk," Dr Hames said.

"But if it's in the last 12 hours they should make sure that they give their child paracetamol and then take every effort to make sure that the temperature of their child is settled."
