Sleep disorder 'turns mum into sex predator'

A British woman says her life was ruined by a rare condition that has turned her into a "sexual predator".

Donna Glover, 40, from Barwell in Leicestershire, suffers from Kleine-Levin Syndrome (KLS), also known as Sleeping Beauty Syndrome, the News of the World reports.

An attack can cause Ms Glover to fall asleep for up to 20 hours a day. When she wakes, she experiences an uninhibited desire for sex — known as hypersexuality — and severe food cravings.

Ms Glover said she was "ashamed" at having random sex with men she met at supermarkets or in parks.

"I've probably slept with more than 150 men in this way — and that's despite being married for five years and having five long-term partners that I didn't cheat on," she said.

"If I have to go out I keep my head down and make no eye contact with men."

Ms Glover said when she felt an attack coming on, she would turn off her phone, stay off the internet and not leave home.

Doctors only diagnosed Ms Glover with KLS last year after recognising her symptoms.

The US-based Kleine-Levin Syndrome Foundation website says the condition normally strikes during adolescence and almost exclusively affects men. It affects one in six million.

Hypersexuality is more common in men than women and is also a symptom of bi-polar disorder.

The cause of the condition is not known.
