An Australian woman whose two children were found dead in Canada is at the centre of an investigation into their deaths.

Thirty-one-year-old Allyson McConnell's husband Curtis said he found their two children dead in the bathroom of their family home in the small town of Millet, Alberta, on Tuesday morning (AEDT).

Ms McConnell, whose maiden name is Meager, is originally from Gosford on the NSW Central Coast.

She remains in hospital after jumping off a bridge in nearby Edmonton in an apparent attempt on her own life.

It is believed police have spoken to her but no charges have been laid.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are yet to release the names of the children but neighbours identified them as Connor and Jayden.

A woman neighbour said she saw the two children - aged two and a half and 10 months - lying on the floor of the bathroom, the Edmonton Journal reported.

The result of a post-mortem examination is expected to be released around 6am on Thursday (AEDT).

A statement from the RCMP confirmed that two deaths had occurred in Millet, and that a car found in an Edmonton Toys'R'Us car park was linked to the deaths.

"Investigators are not yet able to comment on what, if any, connection exists between the vehicle or its circumstances and the circumstances involving the two deaths in Millet," the statement said.

Mr McConnell had been fearful his wife would take the children back to Australia with her, the Edmonton Journal reported.

"(She) has been threatening me that she wants to move back to Australia with our children," he said in a sworn statement during their divorce proceedings late in 2009.

"I am completely opposed to this, and I am fearful that she will attempt to do this without my consent or knowledge."
