Entertainment promoter Glenn Wheatley has told a jury he is still ashamed about cheating the tax system, but he is not a dobber.

Mr Wheatley is testifying against lawyer Paul Gregory, who he alleges introduced him to a tax fraud scheme that landed him in jail in 2007.

The music guru told Gregory's Victorian Supreme Court trial on Wednesday that he was still embarrassed about sending his income offshore to hide it from Australian authorities.

"At my sentencing I was ashamed of my actions and I still am ashamed today," Mr Wheatley said.

"That's why I've done everything I can to do the right thing here."

Mr Wheatley served 10 months behind bars and another five months in home detention after pleading guilty to hiding his money from Australian authorities.

He admitted cutting a deal with prosecutors in exchange for a better sentence, which included testifying against Gregory and another man allegedly involved in the scheme, expatriate businessman Philip Egglishaw.

But, under cross-examination from defence counsel Ian Temby, QC, Mr Wheatley objected to being called a dobber.

"I've never dobbed anyone in," he said.

"I was ashamed of myself and I wanted to clean this up.

"If that meant then that I was going to go and be presented with documents in court and confirm or not whether they were related to me and Mr Gregory and Mr Egglishaw, I said I would confirm that they are related.

"Is that testifying against? I guess it is, sir, but I just need it to be made clear ... call me a tax cheat, but please do not call me a dobber.

"I have a serious problem with this and it's something that I react very strongly to.

"I'm not on trial but my credibility is on trial at the moment."

Mr Wheatley said although he agreed to co-operate with authorities and had pleaded guilty, they reneged on their pact not to jail him.

Gregory, of NSW, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of defrauding the commonwealth and one count of dishonestly causing a risk of loss to the Commonwealth.

He denies helping Mr Wheatley hide over $650,000 in earnings from managing singer John Farnham's Talk Of The Town tour in 1994 and 1995 and promoting a boxing match with then world champion Kostya Tszyu in Melbourne in 2003.

The trial continues on Thursday.
