Police are interviewing witnesses about an argument that erupted before a cliff fall that cost three young men their lives.

The third man, 23, died in hospital late on Sunday night from head and internal injuries suffered in the fall from a Sunshine Coast cliff on Saturday evening.

Police say six people had gathered at Point Cartwright when a verbal fight broke out.

One man, 22, died when he plunged more than 20 metres onto rocks below. The second man, 20, died in hospital on Sunday morning, followed by the third on Sunday night.

The men had been outside a safety barrier when they fell.

Police on Monday said they were continuing to interview witnesses to determine what happened in the moments before the falls.

They have said alcohol may have been a factor.

Officers are preparing a report for the coroner.

The three dead men were all from the Sunshine Coast.

Meanwhile, a review has been launched into safety fences along the cliff.

Sunshine Coast mayor Bob Abbot said someone made a decision to be on the wrong side of the fence and that had turned into an enormous tragedy for three families.

He said the council would look at safety measures along the point.

"We are willing to assess the level of safety and the level of risk and do those assessments, and we're certainly willing to work with the coroner," Mr Abbot told AAP on Monday.

But, he added: "There has to be a limit on how much authorities or even private land owners can do to stop these sort of things happening".

"It is a place of extreme beauty and one would wonder if putting up an extreme fence that people can't get over - six foot high, with barbed wire on the top - would be an appropriate thing to have at such a wonderful place.

"If we need to do that we will, but we're looking forward to having some commonsense being involved in this."
