Football great Dermott Brereton claims he categorically told Lara Bingle that Brendan Fevola was married before the pair started their infamous affair.
Brereton told Melbourne radio station SEN he had finally to decided to speak out after becoming fed up with Bingle's story and the fact she was profiting from it.
He said he explicitly pointed out Fevola's wife Alex to Bingle during a conversation at a party in 2006.
"Lara walked up to me that night and said, 'I met that guy over there, Brendan Fevola'," Brereton said.
"I said, 'He's a knockabout, he's a little bit of a ratbag but not a bad bloke'.
"She said 'Does he have a girlfriend?'
"And I said back to her verbatim, 'No he doesn't have a girlfriend, but that pretty blonde girl standing next to him is his wife'.
"And her reply to me verbatim was, 'Do you think he'd still have a go after me?'"
Brereton, a former Hawthorn premiership player, said he did not object to Bingle having an affair but was particularly infuriated she had been paid a reported $200,000 for a supposed tell-all interview with Woman’s Day last week.
The comments come amid reports Bingle and Michael Clarke are close to calling it quits on their relationship of four years.
