Two young girls have been ordered to spend weekends with their convicted sex offender father provided he puts a lock on their bedroom door.
Hobart's Family Court ruled the girls, aged eight and 10, must be able to lock the door and "share the same room so they can have the mutual support of one another", The Australian newspaper reports.
Despite the ruling, a Family Court judge said he was "far from convinced" the man — who has been convicted of child pornography — was not a threat to his daughters.
The court heard the man posed little danger to his daughters when they were awake and alert, but that the girls were more vulnerable after dark.
"At night, when they were asleep or partly asleep and not aware of each other's whereabouts, they would be less secure," a family counsellor said.
The court heard the man had once invited his eldest daughter into his bed and demonstrated "inappropriate" affection.
The girl has told a counsellor she is afraid to be around her father.
The man was convicted in 2007 of three child pornography offences including filming images on his computer, the newspaper said.
