A university campus in Sydney has been evacuated after a gunman attempted to rob a woman.
Police are searching the University of Western Sydney (UWS) campus in Werrington for the man, who is armed with a pistol.
UWS management evacuated students and staff just minutes after the attempted robbery in a car park about 1pm (AEDT) on Friday.
"The woman is suffering from shock and no property was taken," police said.
The bandit, said to speak with an accent, was last seen running east from the car park towards the Great Western Highway.
He is described as 170cm tall, with a medium build and was wearing a dark hoodie-style top and tight pants.
Anyone who might know of the man's whereabouts or identity is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
UWS later said its Werrington South campus would remain closed for the rest of Friday as police conduct investigations.
"All other UWS campuses remain open and are operating as usual," it said in a statement.
"Classes at the Werrington South campus will resume as scheduled on Monday."
