A Hobart man has pleaded guilty to prostituting a 12-year-old girl to more than 100 men.
Gary John Devine, 51, yesterday admitted in the Hobart Supreme Court to arranging for the girl to have sex first at a CBD hotel and then at his apartment in suburban Glenorchy, The Mercury reports.
The court heard Devine started prostituting out the girl in July last year after her mother mentioned she was having money problems.
Prosecutor Daryl Coates said Devine, the mother and the girl resolved to start the prostitution charging men $100 for half an hour and a further $50 if they did not want to wear a condom.
Devine placed an advertisement in the sex pages of a newspaper for an 18-year-old girl named "Angela".
He then booked a room for two nights at the Midcity Hotel, where the abuses first occurred.
Later he brought men to see the girl at his apartment from Thursdays to Sundays.
"He's procured her to prostitute herself and to have sex not with one person or two persons, but hundreds of people," Mr Coates told the court.
"She's likely to have serious psychological distress if not problems as a result of this,"
The court heard the mother took the largest share of the earnings, with smaller shares for Devine and the girl.
All three abused drugs during this time, Mr Coates said.
The court heard the girl is now suffering from sexually transmitted diseases including Chlamydia and genital warts.
Devine will be sentenced on Thursday.
