A man has been taken to hospital in Queensland after his hand became stuck in a wood-chipping machine.

The 55-year-old was working with the machine in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast when his hand was caught in the device.

He also sustained a serious neck injury as he struggled to free his hand from the machine, an ambulance spokesman told ninemsn.

Other reports said the neck injury was caused by a projectile which shot out of the machine and struck him.

The man was conscious when he was taken to Nambour General Hospital, and is believed to be in a stable condition.
