TODAY reporter Alison Ariotti has revealed the reason why she suddenly fainted in the middle of a live cross last week – she's pregnant.
Ariotti's collapse made news headlines on November 14 after she suddenly stopped speaking while footage of a car chase was being displayed on screen.
Speaking of the incident this morning, TODAY host Lisa Wilkinson said: "We didn't know what had happened, we didn't know if a line had dropped out but we could definitely hear Alison panting."
The Queensland-based reporter appeared via a live cross to explain what had happened.
Joking that she was sitting down and there was no risk of a repeat incident, Ariotti said: "My very badly kept secret, or I guess the rumours that everyone was speculating after that faint, is that my husband Jerry and I are expecting our very first baby."
Ariotti said she started feeling quite faint a minute before the live cross.
"I thought 'can I get water, can I get anything in time to hold me through?' and I started speaking and it all started spinning," she said.
Ariotti said she tried to "push through" and finish her report, adding that it "obviously that didn't happen".
"I remember lying on the floor while there was silence thinking 'Georgie I'm not coming back, I'm not coming back!'"
Ariotti also announced the good news to her Twitter followers this morning, tweeting: "Thrilled to announce my hubby & I are expecting our first bub. Let the adventure begin! Thanks @thetodayshow team for all the support."
