Beauty and the Geek contestant Adam Marshall will be reinstated to his job after a 16-month court battle with employer the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).
Mr Marshall was sacked by the BOM after he asked to appear on the reality television show while he was on sick leave for recurring stress and anxiety.
Mr Marshall told his employer that his doctors advised appearing on the show may have "health benefits".
But the BOM cited problems with Mr Marshall's doctor’s certificate and sacked him from the Australian Antarctic weather program.
The Ballarat man had been on sick leave for three months after he was diagnosed as suffering from severe anxiety and stress.
On Monday, Federal Magistrate Dominica Whelan ordered the BOM to re-hire Mr Marshall and to give him backpay owed from his $75,000 salary.
Prior to his dismissal, Ms Whelan said she found Mr Marshall to be "an excellent employee."
Mr Marshall's lawyer, Joseph Kelly, said Mr Marshall was excited to be going back to work.
He was a successful contestant for the 2011 series and was paired with a former Miss FHM Australia, Emma Ceolin.
The couple lasted three episodes before they were eliminated.
Mr Kelly said when his client told the court that when he asked to appear on the show during his sick leave, a human resources officer "said, ‘we've had enough of this guy' and pulled the pin."
The court found the bureau was not entitled to make the dismissal.
