A young Victorian girl has died after a freak skipping rope accident in her backyard.
The six-year-old from East Gippsland was playing on a swing set at her Bairnsdale home when she was found unconscious by family members at 4.30pm yesterday.
Investigating Officer Margaret Schulz described it as a "tragic accident".
"She was playing with the swing set and got tangled in the skipping rope," she said.
The girl suffered cardio-respiratory arrest and was treated by paramedics at the scene and on the way to Bairnsdale Hospital, a Victoria Ambulance spokesman said.
She died at the hospital.
Police are preparing a report for the coroner.
