December 10, 2012: Fire has broken out in a shed on the Gold Coast where hundreds of boats were being stored.

At least two luxury cruisers were among 20 boats destroyed in a fire at a marina south of Brisbane.

Twenty-three fire crews battled flames yesterday afternoon at a multi-level storage shed at the Horizon Shores marina at Steiglitz.

They were called to the area just after 2pm (AEST).

Firefighters were confronted with black smoke that could be seen billowing from the shed up to 10km away.

The blaze was under control by 3.15pm.

But at least 20 of the approximately 230 vessels in the shed were lost, the Department of Community Safety said.

"Some you can barely recognise as a boat - they’re a pile of ashes," a Queensland Fire and Rescue Service duty manager told the Brisbane Times.

It's been quite an intense fire and obviously with fibreglass and boats containing fuels, furnishing and timber they burn well."

No one was injured in the blaze.
