March 07, 2013: New footage has emerged of the Mardi Gras "police brutality" incident prior to the arrest of 18-year-old Jamie Jackson.

New footage has told another story of the alleged police bashing of an 18-year-old man at Mardi Gras on Saturday night.

The new video was shot before Mr Jackson was slammed to the ground and stepped on by a police officer.

In the video, filmed by an English TV producer, Mr Jackson is seen throwing a punch at a police officer and is then punched in return.

A horrified crowd watches on as Mr Jackson is forced to the ground to be handcuffed and kicks out at police several times.

Last night on A Current Affair Mr Jackson said he had little recollection of what had happened in the lead-up to the incident.

"It shouldn't have gone that far, I just don't know how it got to that point," he told A Current Affair.

March 07, 2013: Nine News has obtained Mardi Gras vision that shows a police officer and Jamie Jackson "trading punches" before he is subdued and handcuffed in front of a horrified crowd.

The video of Mr Jackson's altercation with police on Saturday night has gone viral, and 5000 have signed an online petition for an independent inquiry into the incident.

Australia's gay and lesbian community are planning a peaceful march in Taylor Square tomorrow night to the Surry Hills police station to "demand justice" for Mr Jackson.

Mr Jackson has said he wants the whole ordeal to go away.
