A man will appear in a NSW Hunter Valley court on Saturday charged with grooming a child for sex, after allegedly being caught in an online sting.
The 52-year-old from Abermain was arrested at a cinema at Maitland on Friday morning, police say.
The arrest comes after police last year received reports about a teenage boy who had received inappropriate online communication from a man.
A sex crimes squad detective, posing as a 13-year-old boy, then engaged the man in online conversations.
Police allege a number of the exchanges were sexually explicit and that plans were made for the pair to meet.
The man was refused bail and will appear in Maitland Local Court on Saturday charged with using a carriage service to procure a person under 16 years of age for sexual activity.
