A man has died during his buck’s night celebrations at a central Sydney hotel.
Police and paramedics were called to a pub on George Street at about 10.30pm (AEST) last night after receiving reports a man had fallen down a stairwell.
The 26-year-old man was found lying unconscious at the bottom of the stairwell with severe head injuries.
Police believe the man, who had been celebrating his buck’s night with mates, was attempting to slide down a handrail between level three and two when he lost his balance and fell backwards to the ground.
Security staff and an off-duty police officer performed CPR on the man before he was taken by paramedics to St Vincent’s Hospital.
He died a short time later.
Detectives have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
A report will be prepared by police for the information of the NSW Coroner.
