The Rudd government is reportedly considering forcing young job seekers to enter army-style boot camps in order to qualify for dole payments.
Ministers Bill Shorten and Kate Ellis have tabled a Youth Start Boot Camp potential election policy for the consideration of the ALP's expenditure review committee, Fairfax Media reports.
The discipline-focused camps were reportedly expected to be a vote winner for Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in the lead-up to the election.
While an initial meeting over the camps took place when Julia Gillard was prime minister, senior government sources told Fairfax Media the policy was still being considered.
But a spokeswoman for Mr Rudd reportedly said the government would not comment on submissions before the expenditure review committee.
