Retiring Defence Minister Stephen Smith has left a live election panel red-faced with an accidental double-entendre about Labor MP Dick Adams.
Mr Smith and fellow panellists on ABC News 24 were discussing the Labor candidate's chance of re-election in the Tasmania seat of Lyons when he made the slip up.
"As Anthony [Albanese] said, big Dick Adams would be hard to dislodge from the seat," Mr Smith said.
"Big Dick is hard to be dislodged from anything."
The audience burst into laughter but Mr Smith did not appear to realise he had unwittingly made a lewd remark.
When he was asked by the ABC panellist if Mr Adams would be okay with him saying that, Mr Smith said "he is a very good local member".
