A former school principal sacked from an Islamic school in Brisbane amid a controversy over the national anthem has reached a confidential settlement with her former employer.

Azroul Liza Khalid took her claim for breach of contract against the Australian International Islamic College to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission in Brisbane on Tuesday.

Ms Khalid wrote a memo stopping the national anthem being played each morning at the school's assembly, according to the college.

But the school denied media reports claiming this meant a ban on the playing of Advance Australia Fair, saying the anthem was still played at weekly assemblies and formal occasions.

A confidential agreement between the school and Ms Khalid was reached after a two-and-a-half hour meeting behind closed doors.

"That claim was settled to the satisfaction of all parties, today, on confidential terms," said industrial services officer with the Queensland Independent Education Union, Sophie Ismail.

"Both parties are pleased with the result.

"That's all I can say."

Leaving the hearing, Ms Khalid said only, "Yeah, I'm happy."

A trustee for the school, Keysar Trad, said the reason for her dismissal was that Ms Khalid could not gain registration as a teacher in Australia.

"She was never able to get registration with the department and the college of teachers," he said.

"She was advised in several emails from the head of the trust was that it would be subject to her getting registration.

"The reason she went to the tribunal was that the emails were not clear enough to her that registration was necessary, but we all know that you can't be a teacher in Australia unless you get formal registration."

Union spokesperson, Sophie Ismail, said Ms Khalid was attempting to gain registration when she was dismissed.

The national anthem is played and sung at every formal occasion, including the weekly assembly, Mr Trad said.
