NSW Premier Nathan Rees has married his high school sweetheart in a private ceremony while on holiday in New York.
The 40-year-old premier was dressed in a black suit and his bride Stacey Haines wore a white blouse and black skirt during their nuptials.
The happy couple were married on Tuesday in New York city, local time, in the presence of a few family members and friends.
The pair met as teenagers at Northmead High School, in Sydney's west, and wanted to avoid the spotlight with a ceremony away from Australian media.
"I said on my first day as premier that Stacey and I wanted to get married, after I proposed in March of 2007," Mr Rees told News Ltd.
"We wanted a quiet, low key ceremony with family and close friends.
"We're tickled pink. I love her to bits and we're both very happy."
Mr Rees announced in September, when he became premier, that the couple would be trying for children.
