Firefighters say a bushfire burning in the heart of Sydney's North Shore is threatening homes in the area and have warned curious onlookers to stay away.
The fire, whipped by strong winds and fuelled by hot and dry conditions, is moving out of the Garragul National Park into the suburb of Killara.
A spokeswoman for the Rural Fire Service says houses on Albany Crescent, East Killara are under threat as emergency services marshal to fight the blaze.
"We're also getting people driving into the area to take a closer look and all I can say to them is — don't," Rebel Talbert told ninemsn.
"Not only are they putting themselves in danger, they are also congesting the roads our trucks need to use to get to the fire."
A helicopter watership is working to douse the blaze, which is throwing a "huge amount" of smoke in the area.
Drivers are advised to slow down and turn on their lights while in the vicinity of the fire.
