A man died when his car crashed into the back of another vehicle and careered into the path of oncoming traffic in Sydney's west.
Police say the 39-year-old man from Cambridge Park was driving his car north along the Northern Road at Luddenham about 4.20pm (AEST) on Wednesday when he struck the rear of a passing Mazda on a right-hand bend.
The man's car then careered into oncoming traffic, crashing head on with a silver Holden Commodore.
Motorists freed the injured man from the first car and attempted to resuscitate him.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 23-year-old female driver of the Holden was trapped in the wreckage for some time.
She was freed and taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
No-one else was injured in the incident.
