A 13-year-old boy and his two younger sisters have been found safe at a western Melbourne beach more than 12 hours after running away from home.

Police located Rashad Omaga and his sisters Nerressah, 11, Narrika, 10, about 7.30pm (AEST) on Altona beach.

The children hadn't been seen since going to bed at 10pm on Wednesday night.

Police believe they changed out of their pyjamas and left their home at Laverton, in Melbourne's west, before 7am on Thursday when their father and step mother discovered them missing.

The children did not turn up at school.

Police say the siblings were "safe and well" when they were found after a tip off from the public.
