Three people have become trapped after a multi-vehicle accident that has caused traffic chaos near Sydney airport.
A truck collided with two cars near the Airport Tunnel on General Holmes Drive at about 12.30pm today, the RTA said.
Traffic has slowed to a crawl as only one lane remains open as police and emergency workers attempt to free the people trapped.
Lanes of cars are backed up several kilometres and motorists are advised to take an alternative route.
Meanwhile, traffic is flowing again in Sydney's Eastern Distributor tunnel, which was closed to northbound traffic for several hours on Thursday after a careless truck driver knocked out the lights.
The over-height truck entered the tunnel, connecting the city's inner eastern suburbs with the airport, about 8.30am (AEDT).
"An over-height truck entered the Eastern Distributor tunnel around Dacey Avenue at Zetland," an RTA spokesman told AAP.
"The load on the back of his truck ripped up the systems in the roof fairly badly - sprinklers, lighting and so on."
Temporary repairs allowed the tunnel to reopen at 12.20pm (AEDT).
The driver of the truck which damaged the Eastern Distributor tunnel did not stop after the incident.
Police could not confirm reports that the man had been located.
