A 27-year-old Charleville man has been charged with attempted murder after squeezing a baby girl's neck, police say.

Police attended a home in Charleville, in southwest Queensland, in response to a triple-zero call at about 10.30pm (AEST) on Saturday.

They allege that when they arrived at the house the man grabbed the baby girl and threatened to harm her before pushing the one-year-old against a wall and squeezing her neck.

Officers managed to restrain the man and free the baby, a police media spokesman said.

A 24-year-old woman, who was at the house, sustained minor injuries.

She and the child were treated at the scene by the Queensland Ambulance Service.

The man is due to appear in the Charleville Magistrates Court on Monday charged with one count of attempted murder, assault, threatening violence and attempted arson.
