It's been almost three decades since two-month-old Azaria Chamberlain was taken by a dingo near Uluru but her family are still struggling to move on from her death.

Speaking exclusively to A Current Affair, her father Michael Chamberlain said he still needed to know why the police pursued he and his ex-wife Lindy so relentlessly.

Lindy, now Ms Chamberlain-Creighton, was convicted of Azaria's murder in 1982 and Mr Chamberlain named as an accessary.

After serving three years in prison Ms Chamberlain-Creighton was exonerated and her life sentence quashed.

But Mr Chamberlain said he was still waiting for the truth to come out about why the police were determined to convict them for murder over Azaria's disappearance.

"It was in the end I think quite a political thing that occurred to us," he told Tracy Grimshaw.

"There are four hotels out there and money had been loaned to the Northern Territory Government and I think that something was said to them. "You've got to fix this mess up because it might affect tourism."

Azaria's eldest brother, now aged 36, told A Current Affair he still hoped a whistleblower would come forward and tell the public what really happened.
