A 20-year-old man has been charged with firearms offences after police seized a collection of weapons and ammunition at his home in Sydney's west.

An SKS semi-automatic rifle, nunchucks and various bullets were found after detectives searched the property in Oxley Park about 10am (AEST) on Thursday.

A small amount of cannabis was also found.

The 20-year-old was charged with possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, possess or use a prohibited weapon without a permit and possess ammunition without holding licence or permit.

He was refused bail and was due to appear at Penrith Local Court on Friday.
