Four taxis were set upon by youths wielding bottles and sticks in Alice Springs on Thursday night, police say.

Northern Territory police are investigating the incident, in which the drivers of two of the taxis received minor cuts when their windscreens were smashed.

In a statement released on Thursday afternoon, a police spokeswoman said the taxis were parked on Stott Terrace, Leichhardt Terrace and Gap Road, at about midnight (CST), when the driver's-side windows were smashed by "youths wielding bottles and sticks".

"In one incident, the driver reported his vehicle was damaged by a group of up to 15 young people," she said.

Commander Anne-Marie Murphy said police were interviewing witnesses and viewing CCTV footage of the Alice Springs CBD.

"These incidents are disgraceful and simply will not be tolerated," Cmdr Murphy said.
