Easter weekend has provided the perfect backdrop for celebrity weddings with both Olympic gold-medalist Cathy Freeman and Nine News weather presenter Livinia Nixon tying the knot during the holiday break.

Freeman's wedding to funds manager James Murch took place under a veil of secrecy on Victoria's Bellarine Peninsula yesterday afternoon due to a magazine deal.

Huge white umbrellas and a marquee shielded the champion sprinter from the cameras as television news helicopters buzzed around the beachside venue.

Freeman, 36, reportedly sold the rights to her wedding for $100,000 which will go towards the Catherine Freeman Foundation for use in disadvantaged communities.

Also yesterday afternoon, TV presenter Livinia Nixon married her partner of 14 months, Alistair Jack, in a small ceremony on a beach in Far North Queensland.

Mr Jack, a builder, proposed to Livinia while on holidays in north Queensland in December.

"I couldn't have wished for a better day, or more importantly, a better husband. We're both thrilled to have made this commitment to each other," Nixon said.

The bride wore a beautiful dress by Sydney designer, Karen Willis Holmes which was created with Nixon.
