Former Victoria Police chief Christine Nixon says she's still considering an offer by underworld identity Mick Gatto to help Victoria's bushfire victims.
A company owned by Mr Gatto has offered to build a large storage shed for victims in the town of Marysville.
Ms Nixon, now the head of Victoria's bushfire reconstruction authority, said on Wednesday her office had called Mr Gatto to ask about the offer.
"Then we'll consider what it is, where it might go," she told ABC Television on Wednesday.
"We haven't got to the bottom of what he is actually offering and where he might put it if he did."
Ms Nixon said some of her former Victoria Police colleagues might not appreciate an offer of help from Mr Gatto.
"I'm sure there'd be some of them who were not very happy about that, but I'm not in Victoria Police any more."
Ms Nixon also said some bushfire victims were still experiencing communication and bureaucratic problems, but the authorities were working to overcome them.
"There are just so many issues to deal with, so many people who are traumatised, that it will take us a while yet to get to the point where we feel like we've got most of those people in a place where they can start to recover," she said.
She also said the coroner had identified almost all the bushfire victims and returned their remains to their families.
