A 40-year-old man has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl in a soccer team he coached in Sydney's west.

Police say detectives began investigating after the parents of the girl noticed suspicious behaviour and discovered text messages allegedly sent from the man's phone.

After the man's home was searched on October 19, he was arrested at Blacktown Police Station on Wednesday morning and charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault with a child under 16 and four counts of indecent assault.

The Kellyville Ridge man was refused bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Wednesday.

Police allege he was involved in a sexual relationship with the girl during the 2010 soccer season, while he was the coach of an under-16 girls soccer team.

The investigation is continuing into further possible offences and further possible victims and anyone who can help police is asked to call Blacktown detectives on (02) 9671 9199 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
