More than 300 people have been caught with drugs after the introduction of sniffer dogs at key locations across South Australia.
Four dogs and their handlers have been working at various locations since October last year.
They have been deployed around nightclubs and concerts in Adelaide and at other events like the schoolies celebrations at Victor Harbor, south of the city.
Police Minister Michael Wright said on Monday that over that time 327 people had been detected with drugs including ecstasy, LSD, cannabis, amphetamines and cocaine.
Most of those were given simple fines with 17 arrested for more serious drug offences.
Mr Wright said the dogs and their handlers were working hard and producing excellent results.
They also served as a deterrent for people considering taking drugs out with them.
"This government is committed to protecting the people of South Australia and helping to ensure their safety at dining and entertainment precincts," Mr Wright said.
"Police now have the power to execute drug detection operations in places identified as hotspots for drug dealing and use."
