Two men have been winched to safety after their yacht washed onto rocks in Sydney Harbour.
They called police after their 34 foot yacht ran aground on Sydney's north shore about 6am (AEST) on Thursday.
The 44-year-old Sydney man and 46-year-old Wetherall Park man told police they didn't know where they were, prompting a police search of the harbour.
They were eventually found at Grotto Point near Manly but, due to safety concerns, officers were prevented from getting close enough to rescue them.
The police rescue helicopter later arrived to winch the men from the stranded yacht.
Manly police said they were concerned for the safety of the men after they made repeated calls to triple zero.
Inspector Donna Bruce said assistance was delayed due to the men not knowing where they were, and has urged all boaties to always keep track of their location.
"Skippers are reminded they should keep note of their location at all times to ensure early rescue in the case of such events," Insp Bruce said in statement.
The yacht remains stranded on the headland and police investigations are continuing.
