Facebook groups have emerged urging people to crash the 16th birthday party of a Sydney teenager, despite the event being cancelled after the invite went viral.

A web chat group called Anonymous hijacked the invite and sent it spiralling worldwide, with more than 200,000 people in the past 24 hours saying they would attend.

Jess is no longer holding the party she planned for March 26 at her home in Chatswood, on Sydney's north shore, but some Facebook users claim they will show up anyway.

More than 70 Facebook groups have been dedicated to the teenager's party and some have published Jess' personal details including her home address.

The teenager advertised her party on Facebook because she was worried not many people would show, but was forced to cancel it after the invitation went viral, the Daily Telegraph reported this morning.

NSW Police has identified a schoolboy as the person responsible for spreading Jess' invitation, including her name, home address and mobile phone number, to more than 200,000 people, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Police say they'll be ready to turn people away on the night.
