Australia eases Japan travel warning

Australia has eased its travel warning for tsunami-struck Japan.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's overall advisory has now returned to the lowest level - "Be alert to your own security".

The level for coastal areas most affected by the March 11 tsunami has been lowered to "Reconsider your need to travel".

But the level for the 80km precautionary zone around the stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant remains at "Do not travel".

"Outside of the 80km precautionary zone and the coastal areas of northern Honshu most affected by the earthquake and tsunami, the situation in Japan has largely returned to normal," DFAT said.
