NBN Co chief executive Mike Quigley says the rollout of high-speed internet across South Australia will not be delayed, despite contractual issues with the government-owned electricity provider stalling efforts.
While every other mainland state has a schedule in place for stage two of the national broadband rollout, SA remains in limbo after contract negotiations between NBN Co and The Electricity Trust of South Australia (ETSA) broke down.
Mr Quigley acknowledged that contractual issues had delayed the start of the rollout's second phase in SA, but said the timeline for construction remained on track.
"We are taking steps to make sure that we can fulfil our commitments to those second release sites, which we announced in the Northern Territory and South Australia," he said.
"We might have started a little later, but we won't be finishing any later."
He was confident an agreement would be reached soon, with numerous companies showing interest in the program.
"We have been working through a process to make sure that in the contracting for construction we ensured we got value for money," he said.
"To do that properly it does mean we haven't placed the contracts yet for the Northern Territory and South Australia but we have many companies which are very interested."
