Hot on the heels of the cougar, sex therapists say a new brand of liberated women has emerged — sex-starved wives who are standing up for their needs in the bedroom.

Women with a higher sex drive than their husbands were becoming increasingly vocal about their suffering, sex therapist Bettina Arndt told ninemsn.

"There has been as steady trickle of women coming to me complaining that they are not getting enough sex," she said.

"There are women out there who want a lot of sex and whose husbands simply can't keep up."

Arndt, who is the author of The Sex Diaries, said four out of 10 sexually frustrated women she had recently been corresponding with had ended their relationships because of the problem.

Sydney psychologist and sex therapist Serena Cauchi said she had also noticed the trend.

"It is not as uncommon as you would think," she told ninemsn.

“There are women who have come to me who have a higher sex drive than their husbands.

"Women may react just as men may do in this situation; some have affairs and some choose to end the relationship."

One Melbourne woman, who did not wish to be named, told ninemsn she had been sexually frustrated for at least half of her 14-year marriage.

"When we first got together, there was never an issue with my husband’s sex drive, we would have sex at least five times a week," she said.

"But in the last seven years he has become less and less interested — now we would probably only have sex once a week."

The 42-year-old woman said her self esteem had "taken a battering" because of the constant rejection from her husband.

"Having a husband who is hardly interested in having sex with me anymore has made me feel like it's my fault."

"I feel like a failure as a wife and as a woman."

Arndt said one of her subjects, "Barb", had only had sex twice in the last 17 years.

Women who found themselves in a similar situation often felt hurt and wounded, she said.

"It is an intolerable thing for them because they think they are not desirable — it eats away at them not being wanted."

"They are often perplexed because they talk to their friends who are all complaining about having to beat their husbands off with a stick."

Arndt said more research needed to be done to find out why some men were troubled by a low sex drive, a task made more difficult because men were often unwilling to talk about it.

"We need to find out more about what is happening to the men and why."

Arndt is looking for male volunteers for her study, click here for more details.

Buy a Vibrator and a big stash of batteries. Problem solved.
I have finally found a partner who enjoys sex as much as me and is rearin to go all the time. ...not really "lucky me" I actually searched long and hard for a compatible partner and it was one of the first questions my partner asked me when we were first dating. Apparantly many men tell woman "they always make their woman happy in bed", but I can tell you from my partners experience that is not the case. and her last marriage over 10 years she was lucky to have sex 1 per month. Anyhow there are many ways to keep the spark alive but I got to say it really means you've gotta get turned on, and for me that means turning my partner on
Women regard sex as a cappaccino Men regard sex as air! Women actually enjoy it for about 10 to 15 years, but most of all they regard it as a trading comodity. Unfortunately as time goes by there value, as a Sex Godess, decreases but there demands don't, so then they need sex for validation. Often it's not forthcomming, the price is just too high!
I was married for 17 years 7 years of councelling 3 councellors and my wife revealed she used sex in our marriage as a weapon to get what she wanted. In the end we separated and divorced not just because of the sex but it was a big issue in our marriage there was never going to be a happy outcome. I have a new partner of 5 years we have the same body clocks she is 14 years younger than me we have a great sex life at least 2 times a day and more sometimes. Like everything in a relationship sometimes just get into it and do it and you soon get in the mood some women expect too much decide to just do it and see where it leads these days its all about the women needs well guys have equally as many needs.
Why do men always have to presume the woman has got fat and ugly over the years,I'm sure the men are right up there with them in these stakes. This is not always the case. I have a high sex drive and have to say I still look just as good as I did when I first met my partner, but sex hasn't ever changed, I'm still lucky to get it once every 2mths and yes it's killing me to have to always wait that long before he's in the mood and we have spoken about it and he's just not a sexual or affectionaate person. You may ask well what attracted me to him in the first place, well he is my ideal man in other respects, as in we have similair interests and he makes me laugh and I love him to bits and wouldn't trade him in for anything, but man if our sex life could be improved significantly I would be the happiest woman on earth. Other than the possibility of dropping a viagra in his beer at night I am lost in finding a solution....just as well I have shares in Duracell!!
What are they whinging about. I would be greatful if the misses had sex once a week, try once a month more like it. 4 out of 10 is not an indication of community standards on the amount of sex thats going on in a marriage. In the standard marriage most guys feel like they are begging for sex as it seems that they are the instigators of sex all the time. From the women it is an attitude problem of thinking about themselves rather than the relationship. As bill said maybe women should try a bit harder in the weight, looks and attitude department and maybe those blokes that are lucky enough to have the offer of sex won't be turning this offer down.
where do i find a wife like this its not like this in my house thats for sure id like sex every night but my wife thinks there is something wrong with that and i feel like there is something wrong with me
housewives cannot have it all their way, there are more and more wives wanting to give up work and stay at home and be a full time wife and mother which is all well and good but it meams us husbands have to work twice as hard to make end meet, take my situation i own a small business and work average 100 hours a week, so most of the time im too tired for sex, and my wife takes it personlly which of course its not.
You women go complaining that you dont get enough sex, why not look in the mirror, and see that your physique does not exist anymore, and that you have forgotten to take care of your body and allowed yourself to get all fat, and fat will never be sexy, so get up and start exercising and get in shape, then start talking about sex.
