About 1,000 young people will receive a rousing call for action from climate change guru Al Gore at a Sydney environmental summit teaching them how mount their own successful campaigns.
The former US vice president, Nobel Prize recipient and Oscar winner will speak via a pre-recorded message to delegates at the youth climate change summit on Saturday.
The director of An Inconvenient Truth will encourage young Australian activists to speak out about the problem of climate change, in the lead-up to the crucial United Nations talks in Copenhagen at the end of the year.
The three-day Power Shift 2009 summit, which ends on Monday, will also feature talks by scientist Tim Flannery, NSW Premier Nathan Rees, his South Australian counterpart Mike Rann, and actor Brooke Satchwell.
Event organiser Anna Rose said the summit would teach young people the skills needed to mount successful climate change campaigns across the country.
"This event will see Australia's youth trained and mobilised to deliver our message to politicians," said Ms Rose, who is director of environmental group the Australian Youth Climate Coalition.
"Youth can drive change and are a constituency who will act - and vote - on climate change."
Power Shift 2009 will be held at the University of Western Sydney's Parramatta Campus from July 11 to 13.
