Occupy Melbourne protesters resumed their campaign against corporate greed on Saturday with a series of largely peaceful marches through the city, but they plan another occupation next weekend.

The day after some 100 protesters were arrested as they were forcefully evicted from their City Square campsite, a mob scuffled only briefly with police at the now fenced-off site.

As dog squad officers stood in City Square, some protesters rattled the fence, prompting police to push them away from the square.

But the group remains on a collision course with the city's power-brokers as they plan to occupy Treasury Gardens, in the CBD, from next Saturday.

A 400-strong crowd met in Federation Square at noon (AEDT) on Saturday and marched through the city's heart to Trades Hall.

Police blocked off the busy stretch of Lygon Street outside the hall as the group held a general assembly from the back of a ute to decide its next move.

After two hours of discussion, protesters dismissed calls to immediately resume their CBD occupation, in favour of marching to Treasury Gardens, beside state parliament.

Some protesters scuffled briefly with police at City Square en route, but a police spokeswoman said police did not regard it as a serious incident.

The group ended their march at the gardens, declaring the site would be its new home from Saturday October 29.

Group spokesman Jeff Reinten said they planned to meet outside the State Library on Tuesday to finalise planning for the occupation.

"We came down here and we declared this our new home starting next (Saturday)," he said.

"I think today went incredibly well, I think it was a really positive turn for our movement.

"We gathered a peaceful consensus, we had a peaceful march and then a very constructive discussion about where to move from here."

Mr Reinten said the movement had made a commitment to protest peacefully, but it looks certain to face police resistance again when its CBD occupation resumes.

Protesters liaised with police about their proposal and were told Lord Mayor Robert Doyle had threatened to serve them with an eviction notice if they set up camp within the City of Melbourne.
