A man has suffered serious injuries after being trapped underneath a tram in inner-Sydney.
Police were called to the corner of Hay and Pitt Streets in Haymarket just before 12.30pm (AEST) on Tuesday, after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a tram and had become trapped.
"Rescue squad officers worked for about 20 minutes with NSW Fire Brigades to raise the tram and free the injured man," a police spokeswoman told AAP.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said a medical crew helped extract the 50-year-old man, before he was taken to St Vincent's Hospital with serious injuries.
Road closures are in place at the corner of Pitt and Campbell Streets, with police urging people to avoid the area while they continue to investigate the incident.
Light rail services have also been suspended, police said.
