The Bra Boys made their name out of their solidarity but a row over money appears to have split the famous Abberton brothers.

In a new biography about the surfing siblings, Jai Abberton accuses his older brother Sunny of profiting from Jai's 2003 killing of Tony Hines.

Jai Abberton claims he used "a lighter and a knife" to remove a tattoo of Sunny from his arm following arguments over the 2007 film that made them famous.

The younger Abberton, who was paid $25,000 for appearing in Bra Boys, is believed to be warring with his brother over plans to remake the story for Hollywood, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The pair have not spoken to each other for three months, the newspaper said.

"What's good for Sunny isn't always good for me," Jai says in My Brother's Keeper: The Official Bra Boys Story.

"For me to turn my back on you, it's for a big reason.

"I just guess some people put money before morals."

Koby Abberton said the argument started because Jai did not like how Sunny made the film "without consulting him".

Bra Boys grossed $1.7 million at the box office when it was released two years ago.

Jai was acquitted of the killing of Hines on the grounds of self-defence.
