Two bikini-clad girls began directing traffic after a fire erupted in a Melbourne suburb yesterday afternoon.

Video sent in by ninemsn reader Timothy Keegan shows the young girls running up to cars parked near the corner of Bristol Ave in Edithvale, south-east of Melbourne.

The girls approach each driver's door and frantically motion for them to turn back.

"Get out! Get out!" the girls are heard saying.

At one point in the clip a driver begins beeping his horn at the car in front of him.

"Oh come on man if there's a fire you'd expect him to sit there," one of the bystanders says.

A Country Fire Authority spokeswoman said the fire began just after 6pm yesterday afternoon on Station St when sparking power lines ignited nearby grass.

Five trucks attended the blaze, which was brought under control at 8pm.

No one was injured and no property damage was reported.
