Another political party is set to join the fray in the key Brisbane seat of Ashgrove at the upcoming state election.

One Nation is expected to announce a candidate to go up against Liberal National Party leader Campbell Newman and Labor incumbent Kate Jones in the hotly contested seat.

Mr Newman is attempting to become premier from outside parliament by winning the seat but needs a 7.1 per cent swing against Ms Jones.

One Nation's Ashgrove aspirant is expected to be revealed on Thursday and will join the Queensland Greens' Sandra Bayley and an unnamed candidate from Katter's Australian Party in the Ashgrove election contest.

The state election is yet to be called but is due in March.

One Nation Queensland state director Ian Nelson says the party decided to run a candidate in the Ashgrove seat even before Campbell Newman announced he would contest it.

"I could see issues that desperately needed addressing and the sitting member, all she was doing was what she was told by the Labor machine," he said.

Mr Nelson said any preference deals with other parties would be announced in due course.

The One Nation party is also expected to announce candidates in the seats of Logan, Southport, Capalaba, Cook, Beaudesert and Brisbane.

The conservative party won 11 seats in Queensland when it debuted under Pauline Hanson in 1998 but did not win any seats in the 2009 state election.
