A Victorian grocery store worker was sacked after he replied to a co-worker's Facebook rant about their managers with: "F--- 'em all. Line 'em up and shoot them. One bullet fits all. LOL."

The 23-year-old, who asked to remain anonymous, was dismissed from the Ritchies store in Hastings Victoria after being accused of making a "crude" and "threatening" comment aimed at the store's managers.

But the man, who had worked casually at Ritchies for seven years, told ninemsn it was a misunderstanding.

He said he had come home after work on December 15 and while checking Facebook on his mobile phone saw a post that said: "Shoot first, ask questions later. I know what I'm f---ing doing. What do you want me to f---ing do? Quit?"

He thought his co-worker was "venting" after a row with his partner and didn't realise the post actually related to a dispute the co-worker had had with the store's management that day, he said.

The sacked employee said he suspected a friend of his co-worker notified management about the post.

He said he had tried to explain the misunderstanding and apologised for any offence but was still fired and now felt unfairly treated.

"They were going by assumptions more than anything else," he said.

Ritchies management said they had sought legal advice before sacking the employee.

The man's co-worker received a warning for posting the original comment on Facebook but was not fired.
