While Shane Warne condemned irresponsible cyclists, a bike rider who was involved in a road-rage incident with him claimed the cricket legend drove into his bike and damaged it so badly he was unable to ride home.

The bike rider wanted to remain anonymous but sent an email to website cyclingtipsblog.com giving his version of the incident which happened in Melbourne on Tuesday.

In the email, which was posted on Wednesday, he wrote that he carried his bike to the police station to report the run-in and said he wanted Warne to pay for the repairs.

The cyclist denied Warne's claim that he thumped his car and said it was the cricketer who was aggressive.

"The driver lurched his car forward, forcing my bike wheel and almost my leg under the front of his car," he wrote.

"Dumbfounded at how overtly aggressive the driver had been and aware that we were now holding up the traffic, I pulled my bike from under the car and attempted to continue riding.

"My wheel was jammed against the frame of my bike and the chain was tangled so I had to carry it to the footpath to fix it."

He said Warne never stopped to check if he was injured and claimed to have witnesses who could back his story.

Warne earlier denied he intentionally clipped the cyclist following the argument.

"That's factually incorrect," he said.

"People can say whatever they want; I know what happened. I did the right thing at the time and I did the right thing afterwards."

Tweeting on Wednesday about the cyclist's email, Warne wrote: "Have just seen bike riders version of events, please buddy - whatever ! I'm not going to get into a 5 year old tit for tat.

"Ps we both know what happened & people next to me shook their head at your actions ! Enough - all move on please !".

Warne on Wednesday repeated his call for bike riders to be registered so they're accountable just like car drivers.

He said irresponsible cyclists believed they owned the road.

"I think what disappoints a lot of people is the attitude of the bike rider. They don't own the road," Warne said.

"Bike riders, please obey the road laws and stop antagonising car drivers," he said.

He said he would be willing to work with cycling advocacy groups after he was criticised for inciting hatred towards cyclists.
