A mother says her 12-year-old daughter was left in tears after she was strip-searched twice by police in Hobart.

Tasmania police confirmed two female officers strip-searched the girl at a house in Rokeby, Hobart, on Wednesday morning, saying the second search was triggered by the girl's behaviour.

Police entered the property with a warrant and searched the girl, who was in a bedroom while her mother was present.

The mother, who has not been identified, told the Mercury she is now seeking legal recourse to the incident.

"They made her remove all her clothes and she was horrified, absolutely horrified," the mother said.

The woman said her daughter broke down in tears when police tried to drag her back into the room to strip search her again.

Bellerive police inspector Glenn Lathey said police acted appropriately at all times throughout the search.

Inspector Lathey said drugs and cash were found in the house and seized.

But Greg Barnes, from the Australian Lawyers Alliance, told ABC Online the case deserved further scrutiny.

"It doesn't matter where the police did it and who was around, this is a 12-year-old child," Mr Barnes said.
