A ten-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital after a car ploughed into him and his mother outside a primary school in Brisbane this afternoon.
The boy has been taken to the Royal Children's Hospital with multiple injuries and is in a critical condition following the crash at the main gates of Mansfield Primary School at 3.05pm.
Andrew Lennie, whose wife and daughter were hit by the out-of-control car, told Nine News it was "quite frightening" speaking to his wife on the phone as the crash occurred.
"I was on the phone at the time to her and all I could hear was screaming and the sounds of the accident in the background," Mr Lennie said.
Both were taken to hospital.
The boy's mother, who was also struck, was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
An elderly woman who was at the wheel of the vehicle was also admitted to hospital suffering shock.
It is believed she suffered a seizure before losing control of the vehicle.
Both women were taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
The street was shut down as paramedics and emergency services responded at the scene.
"It's obviously a very traumatic incident for the school community," Inspector Steve Apps said.
Children at the school who witnessed the crash will receive counselling.
"They'd be distressed for some days to come, I imagine," Inspector Apps said.
