The NSW government says it is confident the transport debacle that left 740 disabled students stranded has been sorted out, with all but 64 yet of those affected yet to have permanent arrangements put in place.

A dispute over new contracts led to some bus services being withdrawn at the last minute last Monday, with operators saying a change in the rates paid by the government under the Assisted School Travel Program made some runs uneconomical.

"I am advised by the department that it is confident arrangements are now in place to transport the vast majority of students whose travel was disrupted last week," NSW Education Minister Adrian Piccoli said in a statement on Sunday.

"I am also advised that the department has contacted affected parents and carers regarding the travel arrangements for their children."

Mr Piccoli said his department has set up a hotline to help ensure that students get to school as quickly as possible.

The minister said if a travel provider does not arrive to collect a student from home, parents should call the Emergency Parent Hotline on 1300 761 882 from Monday between 7am and 6pm.

The program helps about 9000 students across NSW.
